Will’s Story

I was born in Brisbane & My heritage is Australian born Cantonese and my Parents are Vietnamese x Cantonese.  I spent my weekends growing up with My parents & their Building and Construction company-based in Brisbane China Town.  My parents always encouraged us to have a go at anything we wanted to do, having the privilege to be in Australia and enjoying what Australia has to offer. They worked very hard to give me the opportunity to do sports like play tennis, piano, cross country running, swimming, and nippers at Burleigh Surf Club while growing up through to high school.

My mum is my biggest influencers during my upbringing and she taught me that dedication and consistency brings results. But most of all that if you love doing something and if it also brings you happiness then that is two big bonuses – keep doing it, keep going, the more you try the better you will become. My Dad reminded me every day was a day to plan, build and make money.

When I was not at school, I would usually go into work riding alongside my dad going from building site

to building site, learning the ropes of carpentry work and daily duties of commercial building. After high school I attended TAFE and followed landscaping as an industry that most interested me, with a Certificate of Horticulture. I then moved onto a Certificate of Landscape and Diploma of Landscape Design and from there gained a role as Landscape gardener for Roma Street Parklands in Brisbane.

To date I have designed and constructed an Australian native garden, Balinese inspired garden, grand formal garden, Chinese flower & vegetable garden, and Old English & French Provincial Garden. These gardens are still flourishing beautifully to this day, I am very proud of my work and the opportunity that has given me.

With a push from my parents to further my knowledge and skills, to undertake more roles within the family business, I went on to studying Diploma of Building and Construction. I have been part of the Building and Construction business for more than 22 years; I currently look after the business behind the scenes (remotely) and only onsite when required.

When I was born, I was diagnosed with Klinefelter Syndrome (KS). It is a genetic difference with 2 extra chromosomes, one X and one Y chromosome.

When I was 18 years old I was further diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis caused by food poisoning, from a sea scallop in a seafood salad. An Infection took hold of my body and created lots of problems, mainly loosing function from the hip down. The normal role of the body’s immune system is to fight off infection to keep you healthy. But having Klinefelter Syndrome, my immune system was already suppressed and it caused the joints to become inflamed by the infection I had from food poisoning.

I manage my RA with medication but also regular massage and physio treatments combined with my self-belief that I can take control and get on top of my injury. This all helped me get back on track and allowed me to continue my passion for endurance racing and health and fitness in general. This pathway lead me to pursue a career in Remedial Massage Therapy.

I obtained my Diploma of Remedial Massage Therapy (Q Academy Newstead Brisbane) graduating in mid-2019. I also hold a Professional Cupping Therapy and Massage Qualification, gained 2022.

Through my own personal experience, I know how important remedial massage therapy (and other hands-on therapies) is to injury prevention and rehabilitation. I am also a strong believer in the benefits of massage therapy not only on athletic performance, but also the well-being of the mind and body.

I am passionate about helping people of all ages and from all walks of life to better understand their own body through hands-on therapy. And I believe in training both in and outside of the gym and experiencing new things and continually expanding my knowledge in all things health related.

PS. I do let myself indulge in coffee and desserts.
