What is Kinesiology?

Kinesiology – the practice of energy balancing- is a holistic natural therapy and, like most traditional medicine, recognises the importance of body, mind and spirit in health and healing.

Kinesiology enables people to detect and correct imbalances that relate to stress, nutrition, learning problems, injuries, and other issues they meet in their daily life. A non-invasive method, Kinesiology is grounded in the study of anatomy and physiology and uses muscles as monitors of stress and imbalance within the body.

A fundamental premise of kinesiology is that the body has innate healing energy and is always doing its best to care for itself, but sometimes needs to be helped into a better position to achieve this care.

Kinesiology recognises the flows of energy within the body not only relate to the muscles but to every tissue and organ that make the body a living, feeling being. These energy flows can be evaluated by testing the function of the muscles, which in turn reflect the body’s overall state of structural, chemical, or emotional balance. In this way Kinesiology taps into energies that the more conventional modalities overlook.

Kinesiology looks beyond symptoms and does not treat named diseases, nor does it diagnose them. Kinesiology is concerned with imbalances in the body’s energy. In this respect, kinesiology has close links with the acupuncture concept of energy flow.

Where, as the result of injury, emotional trauma, nutritional or other unresolved stress, the energy flow is interrupted, the whole body is affected. The exact nature of blockage in the energy flow can be more closely identified by muscle testing. Acupressure massage, light touch and other simple correction skills are used to restore muscle balance, which has a flow-on effect into total body energy.

Kinesiology is not limited to dealing with ailments. Energy balancing brings a person closer to achieving any goal of their choice – in sport, relationships, learning or coping with life generally.

Frederic is able to incorporate Kinesiology assessment and treatment into your Massage Session, or he is able to perform traditional Remedial or Sports Massage depending on your preference. If you are open to trying Kinesiology within your consult, please let Frederic know when you first start with him. You are welcome to change your mind at any time and let us know you would prefer a standard Sports or Remedial Massage at any time- just speak up! 🙂

Frederic’s story

My journey has been a diverse and exciting one, filled with various experiences and changes that have shaped my life and career. From my active childhood in Belgium, where I participated in sports like volleyball, athletics, and judo, to pursuing a degree in electrical engineering at university, my story took an unexpected turn.

Upon receiving a job offer as a test driver for Volvo after my first year of university, I decided to embrace this opportunity and worked as a test driver for Volvo for over a decade. Despite the allure of a different career path, my interest in anatomy and physiology, stemming from my sporting background, remained a significant part of my life.

I’ve always had a keen interest in anatomy and physiology, so in 2000 I started a course in Naturopathy and Reflexology.

In 2003 I had an opportunity to live and work in India. In India I met my wife, Hedy, who was there on holidays. It was in India that I developed an interest in doing massage as a profession. I was very fortunate to find a teacher in Ayurvedic Massage and studied with him for a very intensive 4 weeks.

Fast forward a few months I travelled to Australia with Hedy on a student visa and started a Diploma of Remedial Massage course at the Australasian College of Natural Therapies in Sydney.

Straight after my course I found a job at Sports Lab, a well respected Physio clinic in Sydney, which was a great learning experience and worked there for 8 years. During that time I also worked as a Massage Therapist for the under 20’s Balmain West Tigers.

In 2006 we had our first son Leo & two years later our second son Jace.

Seeking a change of pace from the bustling life in Sydney, the Gold Coast seemed the perfect environment for our new little family and we moved here in 2010. That same week I started working at MyGCphysio and haven’t looked back since.
